Steel cutting in sewers- 375mm Steel foundation pile cutting

Client’s Brief

Remove a steel foundation pile which had be accidentally driven through a 6 meter deep sewer under a Tesco Superstore.

Solution

Use a 40,000psi abrasive cutting  unit to cut through the steel pile, remove the large lump of concrete and steel once cut, then install a specialist patch repair to support the pile and seal the pipe work.

Site Difficulties

Depth of the sewer, under a new Tesco’s Superstore, which was 6 meters deep, next to a large retaining wall and large water course and the access manhole was in a busy four way  junction.
